Description
Kweli is a 2023 Excess 14, the premium 3‑cabin owner’s version, built by Groupe Beneteau—one of the most trusted names in yacht construction—and designed by VPLP for sailors who prioritize real performance and offshore capability. This is not a charter-spec cat; it’s a higher-quality, owner‑focused design with a low boom, aft helms, direct cable steering, a forward‑set rig, and sleek, efficient hulls that deliver the lively feel monohull sailors appreciate.Kweli is hull #6, and she has benefitted from the full suite of factory post‑production upgrades carried out by dedicated Excess/Beneteau teams. These teams visited the boat in Portsmouth (UK), Lanzarote (Canaries), and Trinidad to bring early Excess 14s up to the latest standard—protecting both safety and long‑term value. Key works include reinforcement of the forward hulls below the waterline and under the water tanks/mast step, upgraded rudder shaft bearings, improved bobstay and bowsprit arrangements, new davits and bow roller, additional deck cleats, upgraded mainsail reefing lines, and various running rigging and steering improvements. The result is an early‑hull Excess 14 that has been comprehensively updated by the builder itself.Inside, the 3‑cabin layout provides a true owner’s suite with a central bathroom and generous storage—ideal for extended cruising. She’s also fully loaded with nearly every factory option plus major upgrades: a large solar array, lithium house bank, upgraded davits, watermaker, enhanced sail inventory, tender package, and more—making her genuinely turnkey and highly autonomous for bluewater sailing. Her owners, experienced long‑distance cruisers with multiple ocean crossings behind them, selected Kweli for serious offshore use and have already proven her with a safe, comfortable Atlantic passage. They are now finishing their cruise and plan to sell Kweli by the end of this season, and are open to earlier offers.Additional InformationAccommodationThis Excess 14 is the top-of-class Owners Version, with a layout including the entire starboard hull dedicated entirely to the master’s cabin. This is a big improvement over common owners layouts in that, rather than dedicating massive space to a shower stall (a cheap way to use space is to leave it empty!), the forward cabin to starboard is designed as a spacious open-plan walk-in storage closet—convertible to a cabin with two single bunks, an invaluable upgrade for serious cruisers. The port hull has forward and aft queen bunks, with ensuite heads including separate shower stalls. The bridgedeck saloon offers comfortable seating for lounging or dining, both inside and out, while the galley provides ample counter space for elaborate cooking when the occasion calls, yet is also outfitted for easy, simple meal prep while underway.Everywhere throughout, you will see thoughtful touches and quality details setting this vessel well apart from the more common “charter cats” that so many are dealing with for cruising today. Each cabin has ample ventilation with hatches, ports, and fans, making her comfortable for tropical cruising as well.Interior Comforts and AmenitiesHoney teak & white lacquered wood interiorValley floorWork Hard – Play Hard interior (Colour: Divine)Additional berths in walk-in dressingLeatherette folders on bulkheadsFabric & leatherette hanging storageAdjustable wooden saloon tableFans in saloon and cabinsAdditional 155L fridge/freezer in saloonKerrock countertops in galley and headsSlatted berthsFusion sound pack (saloon & cockpit)Dimmer for cockpit and saloon lightingHaier washer/dryer (9/5 kg) in starboard hullAquabase watermaker – 100 L/hrPanasonic electric convection/microwave/grillStandalone 2-zone induction hobSamsung 32” Smart TV in saloonCustom saloon window sunshadesElectronics and NavigationGarmin GPSMAP 12” at starboard helm w/ composite consoleGarmin GPSMAP 12” at port helm w/ composite consoleGarmin Fantom 18” radarGarmin Reactor autopilotGarmin 315i VHFGarmin AIS 800 transceiverSpeed/depth/temp transducer + wind transducerExternal USB outlet at starboard helmWindlass remote control at helm w/ chain counterElectrical SystemsAC Power: 230V, 32A shore power, outlets, USB outlets, 40A chargerDC Power: 12V system990Ah lithium batteries960W solar on coachroof1125W solar on platform/davitsVictron Quattro 12V / 5000W inverterDeck and Hull EquipmentIntergral molded keels - strong to dry out onDyneema lifelinesAnchoring:25 kg Delta anchor w/ 75m chain + warp Electric windlass w/ chain counter and remote at the starboard helm deck wash system with salt and fresh water (selectable)Composite cockpit table with extensionOrange exterior upholstery setHelm seating: starboard + port double helm seats (upgraded)Cockpit sun shadeComposite davits Outboard bracketAft cockpit enclosure with windows (Cadet Grey)6P Plastimo Transocean liferaftSails and RiggingElectric primary winchPulse Line hull decorationComposite steering wheelsFlat winder for mainsail travellerLazy bag for mainsailSail Inventory:Square-top mainsailOverlapping genoaCode 0Asymmetric spinnaker w/ snuffer (Sanders Sails)Tall Rig ‘Pulse Line’ Rig & Sailplan Includes:Barber haulerBall-bearing trimmable genoa carsMainsail & overlapping genoa in grey Elvström e-XRP Ekko recycled laminate (upgrade from standard Dacron)Mechanical EquipmentDyneema cable steeringBilge pumpsSafety gearEmergency tillerEngine Info(2) Yanmar 57hp engines with saildrives (~350 hours)(2) folding/feathering propellorsTankageFuel Tanks: (2) 53 gallons each (total 106g/400L)Water Tanks: (2) 79 gallons each (total 158g/600LHolding Tanks: (2) 21 gallons each (total 42g/80L) Boat History:Near new, but old enough to have the bugs worked out- fully spec'd and outfitted for serious cruising. Owners took delivery, learned the boat, crossed the Atlantic, did a season in Caribbean of cruising. Stored on land in Trinidad, Now commissioned for second season and plans were always to sell after this. Owners Comments: We chose Kweli after many years of long‑distance cruising and several ocean crossings on previous monohulls. We wanted a catamaran that still sailed like a proper boat, with good feedback at the helm and genuine offshore capability, and the Excess 14 ticked those boxes for us. Kweli delivered a safe, comfortable Atlantic passage last season and has been a very enjoyable liveaboard cruising platform. As an early Excess 14 (hull #6), Kweli has also benefitted from the full program of post‑production modifications carried out by dedicated Excess/Beneteau factory teams. They were quite insistent on doing this work, as they wanted all early boats brought up to the same standard. Their teams visited us in Portsmouth (UK), Lanzarote (Canary Islands), and Chaguaramas (Trinidad) to complete the upgrades. The most significant work was the reinforcement of the forward hull sections below the waterline and the areas under the water tanks and mast base. To do this they removed and reinstalled parts of the bunks, floors, and sidewalls, leaving everything properly finished when complete. They also upgraded the steering (Dyneema cables and Jefa needle‑roller rudder bearings), modified the keel trailing edges to improve flow over the rudders, replaced and improved the bobstay and bowsprit in the area of the bow roller, installed new davits and a new bow roller, added extra forward cleats, upgraded mainsail reefing lines and deck organizers, and carried out an electrical throttle wiring harness recall. A carbon support beam was also fitted above the cockpit‑to‑saloon doors. While it was a bit inconvenient at the time, we were impressed with the thoroughness, and we feel it has helped maintain and even enhance the long‑term value of the boat.Kweli is set up for autonomous cruising with a large solar array, lithium batteries, watermaker, upgraded sails, and a good tender package. The 3‑cabin owner’s version layout, with its dedicated owner’s suite and central bathroom, has worked very well for extended cruising. We are now nearing the end of our planned cruise and intend to sell Kweli by the end of this season, but we are open to earlier offers.DisclaimerThe company offers the details of this vessel in good faith but cannot guarantee or warrant the accuracy of this information nor warrant the condition of the vessel.
