Description

Discovery 58, LUNA OF SARK, was the second of this great series of bluewater cruising yachts to come out of the Discovery Shipyard. To designs by Ron Holland, the Discovery 58 is bigger sister to the legendary Discovery 55. She has all the Discovery DNA and design features which made the 55 a benchmark cruising yacht – a genuine deck saloon, 2-handed sailing and handling, interior watch keeping, an excellent galley, and sleeping cabins. With around 40% more volume than the 55, the Discovery 58 has generous dimensions. Always maintained in great shape, she has been further upgraded in this ownership including all new batteries, solar array and covers, and much else. Unfortunately, her owner’s plans have been put on hold because of poor health so she is back on the market. She continues to be meticulously maintained and the owner will continue with a local cruising programme until her new owner is found LUNA represent the opportunity to purchase an outstanding cruising yacht with the benefit of a recent survey and absolutely no rough edges. Investment in LUNA continues including a full sprayhood, cockpit and bimini enclosure for this year. I dedicated several years of my time towards carefully researching a wide range of monohull sailing yachts. My final conclusion was that the famed Discovery brand, with it’s raised nav station designed specifically for easy night watches in the comfort of the saloon was undoubtedly amongst the safest and best built blue water yacht options on the market. Soon thereafter I started to travel extensively and viewed a number of Discovery yachts for sale in various corners of the world including several 55’s, a 57 and finally a 58. The 55 is a beautiful yacht but I found it to be just a little too cramped and restricted around the helm position. The extra 40% volume and clear unobstructed walkthrough cockpit space of the 58 really stood out for me. When a 58 unexpectedly appeared on the market in Mallorca I wasted no time in getting to Palma. From the moment I set eyes on her, I knew that LUNA was the yacht that I had been searching for. She was by some margin the cleanest and best presented Discovery that I had viewed. She is an exceptional yacht and absolutely gleams from stem to stern thanks to the meticulous attention of her previous owners. She was perfect for me in all respects and only needed a few minor upgrades to bring her fully up to spec. I have invested in all new house batteries, new bow thruster batteries, additional flexible solar panels (now a total of four), a new Quantum radar, updated safety equipment, classy Sunbrella cockpit cushions and a costly fully enclosed aft cockpit enclosure which includes clear screens all around the twin helm positions. This makes sailing in all weather conditions entirely safe and comfortable. Very sadly my own personal ocean sailing dreams have been curtailed due to ongoing health issues. LUNA has only been sailed lightly all her life. She is right now absolutely ready for a grand adventure and would relish an Atlantic crossing or an ‘around the world’ odyssey in order to be able to fully open her wings and stretch her beautiful long legs. After I had bought LUNA, I had her upgraded for my use. The work list is below –
