Description
The Sadler 290 was designed by Stephen Jones creating a modern, higher volume successor to the well known original Sadler designs.6 berths including a large double aft cabin. Separate heads and a good galley. She had a good sized interior despite her LOA and is perfectly suited to family ownership or a couple for short handed sailing.Zephyr is in good condition with substantial recent upgrades.Dimensions & general info.LOA - 8.90m / 29' 2"LWL - 7.90m / 25' 11"Beam - 3.24m / 10' 7"Draft (Bilge Keels) - 1.30m / 4' 3"Displacement - 4822kg / 10,600lbsSail area - 56sqm / 606 sq ftYear - 2005 to a 2006 model yearBuilder - Rampart Yachts Ltd., Southampton.Designer - Stephen JonesThe Sadler 290 was designed by Stephen Jones to produce a more modern, higher volume successor to the well known original Sadler designs, which whilst very seaworthy and generally good performers, do not offer the sort of accommodation desired by many current buyers.Built by Rampart Yachts in Southampton, the hulls were moulded in GRP with foam stringers and bonded-in bulkheads, with the lead keels on GRP stubs to keep the ballast weight low. By modern standards she is quite heavy for her size, with a 46% ballast ratio giving her an AVS of 140 degrees, more than most modern production 35-footers. With a big yet easily managed fractional rig she is nevertheless a fast boat, 'Yachting Monthly' describing her as ".... a quick but stiff boat that is easily capable of seeing off larger yachts".She is one of very few sub 30 ft yachts to achieve RCD Category 'A' Ocean status, even in bilge-keel form. The original design was for both fin and bilge keel options, but with Stephen Jones' well known racing design expertise the twin-keeled version turned out to be so fast that virtually no-one ordered a fin-keeler.Hull, deck & superstructureWhite GRP hull with Navy waterline stripe and cove line.White GRP deck and superstructure. Walking areas with moulded non-slip pattern.Teak laid cockpit seats and floor.Lead bilge keels. These are LCG keels with plenty of depth to aid sailing performance. The keel bolts are shinny!Single rudder mounted on a partial moulded hull skeg. The twin keels and substantial skeg mounted rudder allow the boat to take the ground.Tiller steering with removable tiller extension.ConstructionThe GRP hull topsides and superstructure are laid up as a foam-cored sandwich construction, reducing weight, increasing stiffness and providing insulation. The hull is further stiffened stiffened by an internal GRP moulding, plywood bulkheads, semi-bulkheads and bonded-in locker dividers. There are glassed-in foam stringers and floor moulding support beams. The below waterline hull is a solid GRP layup and utilises a lay-up of polyester resin, mixed-strand glass-fibre matting and woven rovings, finished with white gelcoat. The thickness of the hull increases around the keel areas. The superstructure consists of a deck, a coachroof and a cockpit in one moulding of GRP. The deck, coachroof walk area and cockpit seats are stiffened by glassed-in foam-cored lateral members and fore and aft stringers. The structure is stiffened by a foam-core sandwich construction and bonded-in stringers and beams. Deck fittings are reinforced by plywood pads. The hull and deck are joined together by an inboard shoebox flange joint, which is internally bonded and epoxy-filled. The joint is screwed together at 6” intervals and finished by a stainless steel rubbing strake.Interior & accommodationSix berths in two cabins.Upholstery, furniture and floors in good condition.Pioneer Radio/CD player with Pioneer speakers.ForecabinV berth with infill piece which also creates a seat.Hanging locker to starboard.Raised shelves running along the hull sides.Central deck hatch.HeadsThis is a fully moulded compartment so easy to keep clean.Stainless steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water via a mixer tap.The sink faucet extends to double as a shower.
