Description
When you first approach a Maxi 1100, it’s hard not to admire her elegant lines. Designer Pelle Petterson created something truly special—a yacht that blends striking aesthetics, impressive sailing performance, and comfortable, well-appointed accommodation below decks. Her appeal goes far beyond looks. Step aboard and you immediately notice the quality of build, intelligent use of space, and a design that feels both capable and easy to handle. She offers an excellent balance of performance and cruising comfort, while the full cockpit camper cover effectively creates an additional living space when at anchor or on a mooring. This particular Maxi 1100 has been much loved by her current owners, who purchased her at just three years old. “Caribou” has been carefully maintained throughout, with her topsides professionally repainted in blue Awlgrip by Desty Marine in 2019. In May 2026, the antifouling was stripped back to gelcoat and professionally reapplied.Taking advantage of the hull being fully exposed, the owner commissioned a structural survey—providing a rare opportunity for detailed inspection. The surveyor concluded that “Caribou” is in good structural condition and a fine example of her class.Never raced, “Caribou” represents an ideal opportunity for anyone seeking a high-quality sailing yacht with a strong reputation for seakeeping and performance. For further information, or to arrange a viewing of “Caribou”, please contact Peter Keats by email, phone or WhatsApp

Owner's CommentsWe bought Caribou in 2005 having previously shared a Folkboat and then a Sadler 26 with friends. We saw her at the 2004 London Boat Show, where my wife was delighted with the roominess, comfort and standard of fitting out.We met Pelle Petterson a few years later, and he attributed the "creature comforts" to his wife's design skills. My primary focus was on how she sailed. Like many Maxi owners, I had raced dinghies, first as crew and then as helm, for 20 years before marriage. On my test sail, I was delighted at how responsive Caribou was, without being too tender. With all of the key control lines coming aft to the cockpit, it is easy to adjust sail trim and area safely and without getting wet! The Max-Prop feathering propeller makes her easy to manoeuvre under motor, and to steer astern in a straight line when needed. In our 21 years of ownership, we have sailed as a couple with friends and family on board, in company with other boats, and on Maxi Owners and sailing club rallies. {As an aside - the Maxi Owners' What's App group is a mine of useful information.}Our sailing has been centred on the English Channel and the north and west coast of France. We have cruised in the West Country, and Channel Islands, and on the French coast from Le Havre, along the Normandy and Brittany coasts, and south as far as La Rochelle and Rochefort.Inevitable age is catching up, and our children and grandchildren are not inclined, or are too young to act as skipper and crew. So we hope that the next person to own Caribou will have as enjoyable time as we have.
