Description

The Farr 40 is a One Design boat designed by Bruce Farr and built by Carrol Marine. The idea with the boat type was to offer a fast, easy to handle and affordable boat in offshore class. There are strict rules for this One Design class, but you usually have to sail regattas against others in different handicap systems, such as ORCi and SRS. To be a single-hull boat, she offers incredible speed resources, and you are guaranteed to be one of the first boats across the finish line. Even if the handicap systems change, this Grand Prix boat will always be high up on the results list. Mast, spreaders, and spinnaker boom have been made of carbon fiber, all to get maximum performance. The deck layout is simple and functional with most trim lines and sheets under the deck. The boat requires its crew to be able to perform at top level and for longer offshore sailing there are sea berths, toilet, navigation table and a simple galley. The boat was originally called "Bit Of a Cup" and had great success in the UK. The current third owner has taken good care of her and upgraded the equipment on board. Ahead of the 2017 season, the mainsail was upgraded to a "Square Top Main", with associated dual backstay, something that has given her extra power and speed. Whether you have plans to participate in the ORC European Championships in Norway this summer or want to experience exciting and fast sailing, this is the boat for you and your crew. Owner’s comment: This Farr 40 has served us well for the past 10 years participating in recreational regattas and cruising in the Gulf of Finland. The boat is serious fun to sail both in light and heavier weather. In light winds tough is where it comes to its essence and outperforms competition due to its light weight/big sail area. The Farr 40 is extremely “user friendly” for being a performance yacht and can easily be sailed by only 2-3 persons for cruising. However, to get the most out of the boat in regattas a minimum crew of 6 is recommended. Heavier weather of course requires more people, mainly for ballast. The boat has always been well maintained and priorities has always been more on performance rather perhaps so much on visual appearance. A major upgrade on the boat performance was accomplished by the Square Top North 3Di Main sail fitted. You can clearly notice the difference in thrust on having more m2 in the top. This has a huge benefit as well on ORCi ratings and thus as the boat as today would be a perfect choice for someone planning on participating in ORC regattas. A full-size Quantum Jib in good race condition for light winds is included. 1 or 2 updated Jibs in the bow, to be fair, and you are set to go! Other than the dual backstay/main modification the boat is still in full Farr 40 OD spec, with the original backstay configuration still available.
