Submit your offer today!1986 O'Day sailboat, 4 cylinder diesel, recent fluids, updated Bimini, recent bottom paint, newer auto pilot not installed, sleeps 6The 1986 O'Day 40 (Deep keel version) is a substantial 39.5-foot fiberglass mast-head sloop cruiser designed for comfortable offshore and coastal sailing. Built by O'Day Corp and first appearing in 1986, the deep keel is a fin keel with a draft of approximately 6.30 ft (compared to the shoal version at about 4.9 ft), giving the boat solid tracking and upwind ability. The hull is of balsa-cored fiberglass composite construction, with done in the 1980s style of encapsulating stringers and bulkheads inside liners to form a strong but reasonably economical structure. According to published data, the fin-keel version displaces around 18,000 lb and carries ballast of about 6,600 lb. In terms of accommodation, the O'Day 40 provides a generous layout for its size, making it attractive for families or couple cruising. A roomy main salon with a U-shaped settee and drop-leaf table, plus a straight settee that can convert to a berth, a forward V-berth cabin, and an aft cabin located on the starboard side. A well-equipped galley is placed just forward of the companionway on the port side, featuring a two-burner stove, double sink and ice box, while opposite is the dedicated navigation station. The head (with shower) is located just aft of the bow cabin. With large tankage (in the 100-plus gallon range for water) and generous berth space, the boat is well suited for extended cruising. On deck and under sail, the O'Day 40 Deep shows its cruiser-oriented roots. The masthead sloop rig gives a total sail area around 700 sq ft, which, combined with the boat's moderate displacement, results in a hull speed of about 7.8 knots. Its deck plan is laid out with a wide coach-roof for headroom and visibility, and a cockpit deep and secure for comfortable sailing. The deep keel version offers better pointing and stability in stronger winds, though the draft may limit access in shallow anchorages compared to the shoal draft version. While we will always attempt to provide you with a TRUE representation of every vessel we market, during any purchase from Pop you will be encouraged to schedule an inspection from an independent, accredited surveyor and every purchase WILL ALWAYS BE subject to your satisfaction with the results from your independent survey and your own personal trial run.We have several more Hunter, Catalina, Morgan, and Ericson Yachts vessels for sale. Owner's Comment
Well-equipped overall, this 1986 O'Day 40 Deep shows typical cosmetic wear for its age - light gel-coat crazing, faded teak, and a few minor scuffs. No obvious signs of major issues or neglect. Boat has been out of the water for over a year. The owner would like to sell soon.
