Description

1974 Giles 38 – Meticulously Maintained Classic Bluewater Cutter

A rare opportunity to own a superb Giles 38 for sale, designed by Laurent Giles and launched in 1982. This elegant long-keel cutter blends timeless lines with proven bluewater performance. Carefully maintained by experienced owners, she stands out as one of the finest examples of her class.

Her freshly repainted black GRP hull (2023) and teak-laid decks give her a striking, classic appearance. In addition, the skeg-hung rudder and deep, balanced hull deliver superb handling and control offshore. A reliable 52hp Yanmar 4JH2E diesel engine with only 1,414 hours powers her smoothly at around 7 knots. As a result, she offers quiet, dependable cruising. She has always been winterised and stored ashore under cover, which helps preserve her excellent condition.

Inside, the warm and traditional layout provides space for up to seven people in two cabins and a convertible saloon. Diesel cabin heating ensures comfort in all seasons, while the Baby Blake toilet and pressurised hot water add convenience. Furthermore, the galley includes a two-burner gas stove, oven, grill, and sink—perfect for extended passages or relaxed living aboard.

Her Lucas sail plan (2008) is designed for effortless handling at sea. Moreover, she includes self-tailing winches and an electric windlass for safe and simple operation. Navigation is supported by a full electronics package—radar, chartplotter, autopilot, and VHF radio. Finally, an Avon Redcrest tender with Mercury outboard completes the cruising setup.

Now ashore and ready for inspection, this Giles 38 offers beauty, strength, and bluewater readiness. Williams & Smithells International proudly offer her for sale at WicorMarine, Hampshire. Arrange your viewing today and discover why the Giles 38 remains a true ocean classic.

The condition or level of safety equipment on board is not to be negotiated on following survey. It is likely to be listed by most surveyors but is not structural or an integral working part of the vessel and is not to be used to further negotiate the price down after survey. We strongly suggest that for your own personal safety that when purchasing a yacht you provide new safety equipment rather than relying on second hand gear.
Should you become the new owner of this yacht then the responsibility to re-register or update official bodies for items such as EPIRB, VHF, MMSI or AIS becomes yours.
