Remarks :Classic 50ft steel cutter for sale in Kent:Artic Explorer is a classic 50ft steel cutter that is currently berthed in Chatham Marina. She was built in 1982 as an ocean-going steel vessel with a cutter rig to a designed by Alan Mummery. This yacht has undergone an extensive refit over the past 4 years and is ready to go ocean sailing. It has 7 berths,a comfortable living area and is powered by a Yanmar 4JH3E (2002) 56 HP diesel engine with a shaft drive to a 3 bladed folding propeller. This boat boasts all the navigation and deck gear you would expect for a ocean going vessel and is ready to set sail. This vessel is UK Vat paid, and the owner is willing to deliver to Northern Europe or anywhere in the UK Currenbtly ashore as can be seen from the photo being antifouled, new anodes and having a new radar system fitted. Accommodation :This 50ft steel cutter provides berths for up to six people in 3 cabins, with a double cabin to aft portside and a large single berth to starboard. Forward is a large double berth with a large opening deck hatch which gives lots of light and makes the cabin feel very airy. The large concealed bar features a solid mahogany folding dining table with removable fiddles and sofa chairing. The seating can also be used to provide two further berths. These berths have appropriate tailored lee-cloths. There is a roomy navigation area with navigators chair and full sized navigation station desk with both red and white lights and under-table storage for navigation books etc. The galley is to port and has a seamless stainless steel worktop and has a pair of sinks with pressurised hot and cold water . Hot water heated by the engine and via a 240v immersion heater. There is a stainless Voyager 4500 oven, grill and hob with new gas pipes all fitted June 2024. A new Cello 24" Smart TV has also just been fitted June 2024. There is a large heads compartment with marine toilet with a featured teak wash basin (new 2023) with shower and hot/cold mixer tap and multiple storage lockers and handholds throughout. The yacht has wide side decks which provide a real sense of safety when walking around deck. The companion way steps lead up to the large and very secure cockpit which has a sold doghouse and lots of storage lockers.

This yacht has had a major refit in the past four years getting her ready to complete in the next ARC. In 2017 the under went a full face lift, including a re-paint of the hull and topsides, some new seacocks, new prop, new prop shaft new engine mounts and lots more. Unfortunately, after all of this preparation for the adventure of a lifetime ill health is preventing the owner participating and hence why she is being advertised for sale. Currently ashore February 2026 being antifouled, anode changed and new radar fitted. Mechanical :Sails and Spars The rigging on board this Alan Mummery Steel Cutter includes a twin spreader 15m aluminium mast, with new 2022 twin running backstays and spare masthead sheaves. New Furlex 300S roller furler fitted May 2025. There are heavy-duty' granny bars' at the mast and it has mast steps to the top of the mast. A heavy duty bowsprit features twin rollers and a steel rod bobstay; there is also a spinnaker and jockey pole with sheets and guys. Nearly all of the running rigging is new, with ample spare ropes onboard, including Lewmar reefing lines. There are also 2016 Jackstays and Lazy jacks. There is an extensive sail wardrobe which includes: two mainsails - one fully battened, three reef, slab reefed to cockpit; three genoas - one high cut and one in bright orange made in 2021 with Arctic Explorer name and logo on it ; staysail; two spare Yankee genoas; storm staysail (hank on); cruising chute; spinnaker with new sheets and guys The deck of this Steel Cutter features a Heavy duty doghouse with reefing lines and main halyard led inside. Winches: Wilkins two-speed 26mm primary winches; Harken 16mm secondary winches; Lewmar winch for reefing lines in cockpit; Barlow 26 mainsheet winch in cockpit; Two mast winches; and one outhaul winch on boom. There are also a full suit of rope clutches Sails: Mainsail, Hood Thorn burrow - Slab (2002) Stack Pack, Fully Battened, 3 Reefs Headsail Thorn burrow - Furling (2002) Tri Sail (Unknown Year) Cutter (2009) Storm Jib (Unknown Year) Spinnaker (Unknown Year) Cruising Chute (2010) 2 x Genoas (2002) and (2021) Mechanical Systems: This Steel Cutter is powered by a Yanmar 4JH3E 56hp diesel engine.(2002) The boat is shaft-driven to a 3-bladed folding propeller . Fuel tank capacity is 380 litres in one mail tank and stowage for 10 external fuel cans. It has a cruising speed 7 knots and an approximate max speed of 10.4 knots . the engine has completed 3165 hours as 1st August 2023. The engine has twin alternators. The engine was last serviced in May 2025. The yacht is fitted with a 2016 Pordesk IKW 240V Genset new in 2021 with approx. 20 hours usage and a PUR Survivor water maker. Electrical Systems:The yacht has 4 x 12v 220AH gel batteries that were fitted new in April 2017 It has LED lighting and a number of 12v sockets throughout It has a VIctron 2kW battery charger and management system. It has a 240v shore ring main system with RCD breakers, with fresh long run potential cords and new diodes, There is a pair of 100W swing mounted solar panels with a separate EP solar regulator and control display.
