Stock #448739ANY and ALL offers will be put in front of our seller! Submit your offer today!YOUR SAILING FUN AWAITS YOU! LOTS OF BOAT AND A DINGHY! PLENTY OF RIGGING! USE AS A LIVEABOARD OR SAIL THE GULF!The 1980 Gulfstar Sailmaster 47 is a center cockpit cruising yacht designed by Vince and Richard Lazzara, built in the U.S. by Gulfstar Yachts. It was one of the early raised-salon sailboats, offering generous headroom, large windows for natural light, and an unusually spacious interior for its time. With a solid fiberglass hull and balsa-cored deck, the boat measures 47.4 feet overall, with a waterline length of 40.5 feet, a beam of nearly 14 feet, and a shoal draft of 5.5 feet, making it suitable for coastal cruising and island hopping. The layout has a large aft master stateroom with a queen berth and en-suite head, a forward guest cabin, and a spacious main salon with wraparound seating and panoramic views. The U-shaped galley is well-equipped for extended cruising. The black water system has been disconnected and now has 2 composting toilet. This boat is ketch-rigged, with a sail area just over 800 square feet. It's powered by a Perkins 6.354 Marine135 HP diesel engine and outfitted with additional gear like a diesel generator, watermaker, 2 low-watt solar panels on top of canopy, bow thruster, and windlass. There are four 12v batteries and a couple under settee glassmat (gel cell) batteries. The seller has made many upgrades including a still sealed water maker. The capacity is 125v so it will need a generator to run it. Also upgraded is a dehumidifier that has never been used. It just needs the drain hose to run down to the bilge. Included is a Dometic fridge with ice maker. Cruising speed is 7 knots. The owner has sails for everything but rigging needs a little attention. This vessel is ready to go down the ICW.While we will always attempt to provide you with a TRUE representation of every vessel we market, during any purchase from Pop you will be encouraged to schedule an inspection from an independent, accredited surveyor and every purchase WILL ALWAYS BE subject to your satisfaction with the results from your independent survey and your own personal trial run.We have several more Morgan, Hunter, Catalina, and Cheoy Lee vessels for sale. Owner's Comment
The owners have lived on this vessel for over 2 years. It is evident that it has been very well taken care of.The engine's in good shape, the owner confirms. Some electrical work needs to be done under cabinets where the circuits are. The Garmin plotter might need the connections cleaned. The depth finder might not workThe mast has been rebuilt. The standing rigging is great. Although there are a couple of ACs, they are nonfunctional - old style refrigerants style. Probably would be more feasible to replace them than get them upgraded.Generator (diesel) does not output and might need some attention, maybe the breaker. This vessel is smoke free but not pet free. The owners have taken great care in maintaining this beauty. It has 3 non-working furlers. It's a power boat with masts.None of the navigation systems works (from previous showing)The oven door latch will need to be fabricated as the original parts are no longer available on the market. In addition, the gas delivery system for the oven is LEAKY and will need to be inspected and repaired BEFORE USE as it is currently a fire hazard. From seller: The Electronics are somewhat dated and again suffering from neglect. I was able to get the plotter to work on the helm by disconnecting and connecting the main connector for the display in the binnacle but a good connector cleaning and contact treatment would do wonders for the current gauges and dials at the helm. The electronics at the nav station all appear to be working but need adjustment. Some of the electronic controls for the charging system and the engine will need to be examined/repaired if needed. The last I knew the vhf radio worked well. The entire electrical control panel will need to be checked out as the wiring is 45 years old and of unknown quality after several different owners. All marker and navigation lights will need to be examined/repaired. The repair to the Step of the Main Mast that was done by Zern Rigging in Pensacola was "completed" over a year ago. (message from seller Oct 2025)Buyer asked: What kind of tension does the rigging need? From the seller: To tension a shroud, first ensure the mast is centered and then tighten the appropriate turnbuckle or fitting, typically counter-clockwise, until the desired tension is reached, which can be measured with a tension gauge or by ensuring the leeward shrouds remain snug when sailing. Start with the cap shrouds tight and adjust lower shrouds so the mast remains straight and the leeward shrouds don't get slack when on a windward tack. Per seller (March 2025): The engine and the Transmission are both in good enough shape to easily carry the boat to Chicago but I would suggest an oil change prior for the engine. I have filters and I believe oil already. In addition there is a charging fault in the starter circuit that I have not been able to address yet. I will stipulate to the start system repair prior to sales. As stated there are sails available with the boat but condition is unknown, I was in process with the mast step before I was ready to send the sails out to examination by a Sailmaster - so I cannot attest to a 'full complement of sails" at this time. I have done nothing with the sails since I purchased the boat. There are four furlers on this rig. The forward furler (Pro-Furler) in very good condition, cutter rigged, a main furler servicing the boom (Harken furler - needs rebuild) and a mizzen boom furler (Harken) and mizzen furler (Harken). Only the Cutter Rigged, Pro-furler is in servicable condition without a rebuild leaving 3 furlers not in proven working condition. As of showing 2026 March:This is my impression of the boat. If you do find someone willing to buy it, suggest that they do a full, out of water survey so they'll know what they are getting into. I'm sure you'd recommend a survey but the buyer might try to cut corners. The only good thing I can say about the boat is it still floats and is roomy. If a little cosmetic work was done, It would make someone a nice condo on the water if they have no desire to leave the dock. I would possibly consider buying if the price was under $20K. I know that's low but I've rebuilt sailboats before when I was younger and dumber. The project always costs 5 times more than you originally thought and takes 10 times longer. Old, neglected boats are very labor intensive and expensive. Anyway, use what you can out of the following paragraph. This boat can best be described as a project boat for someone with very deep pockets and a lot of time. The boat cannot be sailed as is. The hull condition is unknown. According to the seller, the boat has not been out of the water while he's owned it. From what I was told, there's no record of the boat being pulled and maintenance done on the bottom by the previous owner either. The boat will most likely need a bottom job. The running rigging will need to be 100% replaced. According to the seller, the standing rigging was inspected during the mast repair and is in good condition but there's no documentation. During the viewing, the electrical systems wouldn't power up and the motor was unstartable due to electrical issues per the seller. Sail conditions are unknown. Seems like many mechanical systems (generator, A/C, etc) are inoperable. The current cosmetic condition of the boat is very poor. Up to date photos of the boat would be nice because the photos in the listing are not accurate. This was the extent of the viewing. Please contact me today to schedule a showing to see it in person!
