Description
Hardy Girl is a solidly built Smith’s Hardy 31 motor sailer, ideal for those who appreciate traditional craftsmanship combined with practical cruising features. Built in 1975 by Smith Bros. (Goole) Ltd. on a Tyler hull, this characterful vessel showcases a GRP hull complemented by a beautifully finished mahogany cabin trunk, with solid timber on ply decks and wheelhouse superstructure. Inside, the warm mahogany and veneer interior adds to her classic feel. The current owner undertook a comprehensive rebuild before relaunching the vessel in 2020. During this time, she was also antifouled. This work has helped preserve her character while giving new life to a well-regarded design.Measuring 31 feet in length with a beam of 10'6" and a moderate draft of 3'6", Hardy Girl is equipped with a long keel, offering excellent directional stability under both sail and power. She is powered by a reliable 72HP Ford Parsons ‘Pike’ 4-cylinder diesel engine with direct shaft drive and a 12V alternator charging system. She carries 150 gallons of fuel and 75 gallons of water with a stainless steel water tank, making her well-suited for extended coastal cruising.Accommodation aboard includes two single berths in the forward cabin arranged in a V-formation and another two single berths in the main saloon, port and starboard, either side of a demountable central table. There’s good headroom throughout the boat, and ample storage. The galley is fitted with a pressurised cold water supply, full cooker, and stainless steel sink, additionally there is a 12v Isotherm fridge located on the wheelhouse deck, while the heads are located separately to port with a composting toilet and hand basin. She is easy to handle thanks to her wheel steering system—conveniently located under the shelter of the wheelhouse. Additional features include a manual anchor windlass, mooring warps and fenders, and a Whale Gusher bilge pump.Hardy Girl offers a rare opportunity to own a well-loved motor sailer with real personality.
