Description

Designed by James McGruer, the first Lorne Class was launched in 1961 and over the following 16 years, a total of eight examples were built. Designed as a family cruiser, with a good turn of speed for racing, the Lorne Class is a good-looking but robust little yacht. At least two Lorne Class yachts have crossed the Bay of Biscay, one reaching British Columbia. Number three of the class, ELFIN OF LORNE has been lovingly maintained over the years and continually in commission. The layout of each Lorne Class was bespoke to the commissioning owner's requirements. Offering three adult berths and a child's pipecot, ELFIN OF LORNE is equipped to a high standard throughout, having been the subject of much upgrading in recent years. Her inventory highlights include: Varnish Mahogany topsides Beta Marine 16hp marine diesel engine (2015) with just 400 hours running Simrad TP10 tiller pilot (2013) Raymarine ST60+ Tri-data instrument Garmin EchoMap Plus 45CV (2020) Icom IC-M411 DSC VHF (2021) Wallas Safeflame 85DU diesel 2 ring hob Wallas 86D diesel oven Baby Blakes manual marine toilet Selden Furlex 200S roller reefing system Owen Sails mainsail, fitted 2012 Owen Sails roller reefing genoa, fitted 2020 Wilmex bronze, two-speed, self-tailing primary winches, fitted new 2021 Yard launching/recovery trailer Lying afloat on her mooring near Shieldaig in the Western Highlands of Scotland the McGruer Lorne Class, ELFIN of LORNE is available for viewing by prior appointment.
