Boat Overview

The 5.5 Metre class has existed since 1949, racing as an Olympic class from 1952 to 1968. It is still a very active class with fleets in 17 countries worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a classic 1962 wooden race boat (sail number F22) in need of refurbishment. Once restored, it could take an active part in race fleets or simply be sailed for enjoyment. Comes with a substantial twin axle trailer.

Design and History

Designed by USA based Alfred E. Luders, "TAC" was built by Chantier Aubin in France for the Lefevre-Utile family, owners of the successful LU biscuit business in Nantes. She proved her speed from the start, coming 3rd in the Championnat International De France in 1962.

Ownership History

The current owner learned to sail in "TAC" as a teenager in France during the 1960s. He acquired the boat from his uncle and moved to the English Lake District about 40 years ago, bringing "TAC" with him to sail on Windermere for many years.

Condition and Requirements

"TAC" has been stored in a garage for the past 15 or so years and is now in need of refurbishment. She was in sound condition when put into storage, and there is every chance that she is still structurally sound now. The sale includes a substantial twin axle road trailer, built for the boat in France. This vessel has never had a motor fitted.

A new boom will be required as the original was utilized on another yacht, and a new set of sails would also be needed. Otherwise, "TAC" is complete and waiting for new owners with a passion for a classic yacht with a proven racing heritage. The seller is open to offers.

Additional Information

For more information about the 5.5 Class, visit the Class Association website at: https://5.5class.org/
